Porridge

Basic porridge is simply Porridge Oats cooked on the Hob (or microwave) and is a satisfying breakfast food that is perfect for a winter’s day, but can also be eaten all year round. Rich in protien, It is also high in carbohydrates but the high fibre contents tends to negate this, making the dish suitable for diabetics.

Ingredients

  • 1 Cup (40g) Oats
  • 275ml Semi-skimmed milk or water, or a mixture of the two.
  • Salt to taste

Cooking Guidlines

Put porridge oats in a saucepan,add milk or water and salt to taste. Bring to the boil and simmer for 6-7 minutes, stirring often.
To cook in a microwave simply mix the porridge oats, milk or water and salt to taste in a large microwaveable bowl, then microwave on High for 5 minutes, stirring halfway through. Leave to stand for one or two minutes before seving.
